Carrickfergus Museum – The History of The Town

One of the best attractions to visit in Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland is the impressive Carrickfergus Museum. Keep on reading to find out what this museum has to offer…

Carrickfergus Museum and Civic Centre is a local museum that focuses on interpreting and telling the history of the town and the surrounding area. Inside this Museum, there are multi-media and audio-visual presentations that help in telling the history of the town. There is also some material from the council’s own civic collection. As well as other Carrickfergus related material on loan from both private and national collections.

The interesting thing about visiting this Museum is the community archive which features local and social history material, related to the Borough’s recent past. This archive also gives the visitors the opportunity to add their own personal stories, photographs, documents and newspaper to the already existing collection.

Since Carrickfergus town is considered the most archaeologically discovered town in Northern Ireland. It is important to go to Carrickfergus Museum to check the findings

there. The museum shows the visitors the life in this town from the medieval times to the more recent years. Something that might attract you to the museum is the “Carrickfergus Fire Brigade” that you can check out here.

Another great thing about this museum is that it’s completely free to visit and within walking distance town centre. Everything inside this museum is accessible by the visitors

and that pretty much makes everything easier for those visiting the place
